Scholarship Applications Are Available at Ohio County Community Foundation
Applications for Continuing Education Scholarships administered by the Ohio County Community Foundation (OCCF) are currently available. The scholarships were established within the Ohio County Community Foundation by donors with a vision to provide educational grants for adults wishing to continue their education or begin working toward a degree.
The scholarships are available to qualifying Ohio County residents and graduates of Rising Sun High School with the exception of the Ralph & Evelyn Galbreath Scholarship which is available to Ohio County and Switzerland County students. Scholarships must be used toward tuition or books. The scholarship payment will be sent directly to the school in which the recipient is enrolled. Scholarship awards may not be used for classes held before June 26, 2009. The following scholarships are available:
OCCF Traditional Scholarship – seven (7) $1,000 scholarships are available to be awarded. This scholarship is available to Ohio County residents or graduates of Rising Sun High School under the age of 25 currently enrolled in a 4-year college or university seeking a Bachelor’s Degree. Applicants must have finished at least their freshman year of college in good standing and have a GPA of 2.0 or above.
OCCF Non-traditional Scholarship – seven (7) $500 scholarships are available to be awarded. This scholarship is available to Ohio County residents 25 years or older seeking to obtain a 2-year or 4-year degree. Applicants must have a GPA of 2.0 if previously enrolled.
OCCF Technical/Licensure/Certification Scholarship – up to $2,000 is available to award. Scholarship awards will be based on course fees for selected recipients. A maximum of $500 will be awarded.
This scholarship is available to Ohio County residents who are 18 years or older wishing to begin or continue training in a specialized field or trade that is to be pursued as a career or that will result in license/certifications to practice a particular profession. Ralph and Evelyn Galbreath Memorial Scholarship – one (1) $300 scholarship is available to be awarded. This scholarship endowment fund was established in memory of Ralph and Evelyn Galbreath, by their children, to provide educational grants for Ohio County and Switzerland County students. Applicant must be 20 years or older, a graduate of a high school within the state of Indiana and enrolled or accepted into a 2-year or 4-year college pursuing an Associates or Bachelor’s Degree.
William J. “Billy” Hamilton Memorial Scholarship – one (1) $200 scholarship is available to be awarded. This fund was created in memory of Billy Hamilton by his grandfather, Mr. Bill Stultz and his mother, Mrs. Joanne Hamilton to provide educational grants for Ohio County residents who are 18 years or older wishing to begin or continue training in a specialized field or trade that is to be pursued as a career or that will result in license/certifications to practice a particular profession.
Homer Pastor Scholarship – one (1) $250 scholarship is available to be awarded. This scholarship endowment fund was established in memory of a very special dog, Homer, by his owner Phylis Pastor to provide educational grants for Ohio County students or graduates of Rising Sun High School currently enrolled or accepted in a course of study in the field of veterinary care. Applicants must be 18 years or older.
Scholarship applications are available in the OCCF office located at 591 Smart Drive, Rising Sun or may be downloaded from the Foundation website at occfrisingsun.com. The application deadline is May 22, 2009. Awards will be announced June 26, 2009.
