The Boys of Summer (1869) Are Playing Again!

The Parks Department and the Historical Society have a vintage base ball team.  Our team is known as the Belle River Ball Club.  The team plays by the rules of 1869.  In 1869 Rising Sun had a team known as the Belle River Ball Club and played teams from Aurora and Rabbit Hash.

The current Belle River Ball Club took on in a doubleheader on May 2 the Huntington, Indiana Hilltoppers.  At left you see Clayton Lamkin putting on his best 1869 Game Face!  Bad news for Clayton and the local team as they lost both games.  The score is not important; however the team had a good time and is practicing for the next doubleheader on July 11.  The team will play on the soccer fields by Grand Victoria at 1:00 p.m.  Cranks, as fans were known as at this time, are encouraged to come and cheer the local team on to victory.
