Belle River Ball Club Splits a Doubleheader
The past two years in July the Ohio County Historical Society has brought 1869 base ball to Rising Sun. Both years the Cincinnati Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Red Stockings have taken to the field to play America’s Pastime. Interest was generated to have our own team and this year we have the Rising Sun Belle River Ball Club.
After losing a doubleheader to the Huntington Hilltoppers on May 2 the Belle River team traveled to Sharonville on May 30th to play two games. The morning game against the Cincinnati Buckeyes saw the Belle River team score quickly and often to post a 26-19 seven-inning victor. The victory was not without a cost as the team had a few injuries. Nothing serious and the players should be ready for July 11th games.
The second game the Belle River team was short a few players and the three Buckeye players graciously joined our team. The opponent for the afternoon game was the Cincinnati Red Stockings. The bats for the Belle River team were not as alive as in the first game and they suffered a 20-8 seven-inning defeat.
The next time the team takes to the field of play is 1 p.m. on July 11 at the soccer fields next to Grand Victoria. The Belle River Ball Club is in need of additional players to fill out the roster. If you love base ball and want to have fun (we do have that) call Bill Dichtl, 438-4915, to see how you can join in the fun and relive base ball of 1869.
