Historic Downtown Summer of 2009, Continued

Rising Sun’s Main Street has a lot of activity happening this summer between 4th of July Parades, Car Show, Summer Serenades, and America In Bloom.  Hope many of you will venture downtown to enjoy your summer and our riverfront.
The Rising Sun Shiner Band Car Show is Sunday, July 12. This event is always a grand success from all of their hard work, which we appreciate and enjoy.
Three summer serenades have already taken place with four more to go (look for the Summer Serenade article for details).  It is always so pleasant to listen to music on the riverfront and watch the ol’ river flow.  The Summer Serenades are sponsored by the City of Rising Sun.  Kathy Engelhardt, the owner of the Rising Sun Wellness Spa and a Historic Downtown Program Board Member has done a fantastic job organizing a diverse group to serenade us.  Please bring a lawn chair and enjoy the day.
Thank you to all the people who have been a part of organizing and participating in America In Bloom.   This is a helpful program because there are judges who come and give us wonderful suggestions on how to improve on different areas of the community.  Sometimes it takes an outsider’s opinion to see things in a new light.  The judges will be in town Tuesday, July 14 and Wednesday, July 15; we appreciate everyone doing their part to make Rising Sun shine.
Historic Downtown Program is currently working on a Strategic Plan to give our organization long-range goals.  We do have a Comprehensive Work Plan that sets goals year to year, but we realize the Strategic Plan will work in connection with the Comprehensive Work Plan.  There will be meetings for public input or if you have any suggestion you can always contact the Historic Downtown Program office at 438.2750 or email ahoffman@orvcomm.com
Now is the time to count our blessings and ask God to watch over our community and all of our service men and women.
