I want to take a brief opportunity this issue to thank the veterans who have helped keep our country free.  From distant shores, deserts, and jungles to the waters off the coast they stand and have stood vigil night and day so that liberty’s lamp would not go out.  Last year we celebrated the Year of the Veteran here in Rising Sun.  We had the Travelling Wall at the soccer fields where thousands came to pay their respects and we erected the Veteran’s Tower on the riverfront as a way of remembering the sacrifices that have shaped us.

Now, in this time between the somber Memorial Day and the jubilant Fourth of July holidays, which happens to include Flag Day, let us remember and honor our veterans, living and passed, and may God bless our troops who are still in harm’s way 10,000 miles away from home and family
