Ohio County First in Blood Donations
On May 7, 2009, representatives of the Rising Sun High School student body were privileged to represent the Ohio County community at the Hoxworth Blood Center awards dinner at the Madison in Covington, Kentucky, where they received first place recognition out of 58 tri-state small schools that sponsor blood drives. The school has received several second place awards in the past few years and was third last year. This is the first year for a first place finish. In addition to a plaque, the school received a $1500 award to purchase items for the school. The Rising Sun High School Student Council and National Honor Society sponsor four annual blood drives and would like to thank all the members of our community who have participated. The first place award is an achievement that reflects on the generosity of our entire community. The Student Council and National Honor Society would like to invite all eligible community members to donate at our next blood drive on Monday, August 10. There will also be blood drives during the upcoming school year on October 8, February 18 and April 19. About four units of blood made the difference between a first and second place finish this year. Rising Sun students hope to bring home recognition for another strong showing for our community next year.
