BE IT REMEMBERED THAT THE OHIO COUNTY COMMISSIONERS met on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at 6 p.m. in the second floor jury room at the Ohio County Courthouse.  Those in attendance were Commissioners Connie Brown, Todd Walton, & Shane Koons; Highway Superintendent Ron York; Auditor Connie Smith; Life Squad President Kim Smith; Building Inspector Alonzo Bowling; Assistant inspector Wade Turner; Ed Finley, and Brent Roberts.

The meeting was opened with the Pledge to the Flag.

NOW IN THE MATTER OF ROAD CLOSING:
Building inspector Alonzo Bowling reported to commissioners that the Planning and Zoning board requested them to close old SR 262 at the Paul Strassel property.  There was discussion among the commissioners.  Todd Walton made a motion to allow Planning & Zoning’s request to close old SR 262 at the Paul Strassel property dba Red Wolf Sanctuary.  Shane Koons seconded the motion and it carried.

NOW IN THE MATTER OF LIFE SQUAD:
President Kim Smith presented a letter for payment to the life squad for their yearly commitment from Ohio County.  The Auditor will make a claim and check will be sent to Kim.  She also talked about the squad runs with the Dillsboro Life squad.  Dillsboro EMT Clint Ellis would like a written contract with Ohio County.  Connie Brown stated that the quickest responder should take the call.  There was much discussion concerning overlapping squad runs.  Kim also informed commissioners that they are contemplating purchasing a new ambulance.  The list price is $144,123 with Ford incentives of $4,700 and trade-in of $20,000 making it possibly $119,423 at time of delivery.  The life squad has $50,000 set aside for this purchase at this time.

NOW IN THE MATTER OF HIGHWAY PAVING:
Ron York had bids from O’Mara and Paul Rohe for paving Downey Ridge Bridge, slip, and Milton Bear Branch slip.  Rohe’s bid totaled $29,950 and O’Mara’s bid totaled $37,795.31.  Shane Koons made the motion to accept the bids for paving from Paul Rohe Co.  Todd Walton seconded the motion and it carried.  Ed Finley answered questions from the commissioners. 
Grant’s Creek project and Salem Ridge/Pleasant Ridge project were discussed.  REMC easement papers need to be researched by Attorney Stroup.

Brent Roberts from B.F & S. informed commissioners that highway funds have been cut 18-20%.

Commissioners read their mail and signed the claims.

Commissioners also signed the changes previously made to the personnel policy.

NOW IN THE MATTER OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING:
Shane Koons made a motion to approve the minutes from June 1st.  Connie Brown seconded the motion and the minutes were signed.
