Submitted by admin on September 8, 2009 – 1:51 pmNo Comment

Walking is the most popular physical activity in the United States.  There are many health benefits to walking.  These include:
• Protects against heart disease and stroke
• Reduces risk of diabetes
• Helps prevent weight gain
• Enhances fitness
• Reduces Stress

31 Miles in October is a free walking program designed to provide the citizens of Rising Sun and Ohio County an opportunity to exercise, meet people, reach goals and be rewarded for a healthy lifestyle.  The goal of the program is for participants to walk at least 31 miles during the month of October.  An informal walking group is forming.  The walking group will meet on Monday and Wednesday mornings in October at 9a starting October 5th.  We will gather on the front porch of the Rising Sun-Ohio County Senior Citizen Center and walk in the Shiner Community Park on the walking trail.  Participation in the walking group is not mandatory.

If you would like to participate in the program or walking group, call Jamie Bell, Park Director, at 438-2700. Proper paperwork must be completed by October 1, 2009 to be eligible for the program and prize.  31 Miles in October runs October 1-October 31, 2009.
