Sunshine Stitchers Host Luncheon & Lecture by Martha Bladen
Sunshine Stitchers, Rising Sun’s quilt and stitchery club, invites quilt lovers and artists to attend a luncheon and lecture with Switzerland County artist Martha Bladen on Saturday, September 12th at 12:30 p.m. Retired from a thirty year career as an elementary school teacher, Martha has taken on a new role as the executive director of the Switzerland County Historical Museums, and is also a partner in Bizarre Ladies, a unique and fun gift shop in Vevay, Indiana.
Artistic endeavors have always been an important part of Martha’s life, providing an ongoing source of contentment and relaxation. Incorporating items created for one purpose and utilizing them as materials for her artwork is evident throughout Martha’s work, recycling in a sense.
Martha says, “I like to utilize a variety of materials in new ways to create my own version of quilt motifs. Sometimes traditional quilt patterns provide the design, and postage stamps or photographs become the fabric. Or fabrics embellished with non-traditional accents become themed wall-hangings.”
Join us for an afternoon of sharing and you’re sure to take a new look at quilt interpretation. The event will be held in the meeting room of the Ohio County Historical Society at 212 S. Walnut Street in Rising Sun, Indiana. Catering will be by the Rolling Pin of Versailles, IN.
The cost will be $15 for both the lecture and luncheon. Please make your reservations no later than Wednesday, September 9th, by calling Susan Bengtson at 812-438-4949 or by mail to the Historical Society at 212 S. Walnut, Rising Sun, IN 47040.
